Late October 2023 saw moderate snowfall in northern regions. Early November weather is not expected to preserve much of it. Snowfall totals in italics are estimates from Open Snow
California: No one has reported October snow and nothing is predicted soon.
Pacific Northwest: Hood Meadows reported 10 inches of October snow. Any snow on the ground in this region will probably
be washed away by warm storms with rain to 8,000 feet over the next week.
Canadian Rockies and Interior B.C.: October snowfall has been below average and first opening will be Lake Louise Nov. 3.
Snowfalls in inches: Revelstoke 4, Kicking Horse 15, Lake Louise 11, Sunshine 11, Castle Mt. 15, Fernie 4. The
Northwest storms may bring 6 inches or so at higher elevations but will likely be all rain lower down.
U. S. Northern Rockies: Snowfalls: Whitefish 5, Big Sky 30, Bridger 17, Grand Targhee 12, Jackson 18, Brundage 10, Lookout 13.
Next week's storms are expected to rain to 7,000 feet with some snow higher up.
Utah: Snowfalls: Alta 22, Snowbird 20, Solitude 18, Park City 12. Most of the snow was in the first half of October
and thus not material to the season. Utah is on the edge of next week's warm storms so minimal snow is expected.
Northern and Central Colorado: October snowmaking opening was only A-Basin Oct. 29 but Keystone scheduled Nov. 1 and Eldora and
Winter Park scheduled Nov. 3. Snowfalls, mostly last week: A-Basin 13, Breckenridge 20, Keystone 15, Beaver Creek 25, Vail 26, Steamboat 16.
High November snowfall will still be needed for above average terrain openings by Thanksgiving; same for the western Colorado areas
also hit by last week's storm.
Southern and Western Colorado: Snowfalls: Aspen 25, Gothic Snow Lab 34, Crested Butte 32,
Monarch 17. Wolf Creek (8 inches) and other southern Rockies areas have had very little snow.
Northeast: No one opened in October in New England or eastern Canada, though Le Massif had 6 inches snow. Snowmaking is
starting this week. First openings will be St. Sauveur Nov. 1 and Killington Nov. 3-4.
