2022-23 Ski Season Progress Report as of October 31, 2022

Late October 2022 saw widespread moderate snowfall through much of the West. Some of this snowpack may persist with ongoing stormy weather predicted.

California: There has been no October snow but up to a foot is expected this week.

Pacific Northwest: There were three storms last week but the last one was all rain so cams generally show patchy snow. Two more storms are expected this week, both starting as rain but ending as snow. The Whistler alpine already has some base and will add much more to it.

Canadian Rockies and Interior B.C.: October snowfall has been about average and no one is open yet. Snowfall and base depths in inches: Revelstoke (35, 19), Kicking Horse (26, 18), Lake Louise (14, 12), Castle Mt. (17, 8), Fernie (20, 9), Red Mt (7,1). The Northwest storms are expected this week, and the second one is likely to add substantially to the snowpack.

U. S. Northern Rockies: Snowfall and base depths: Grand Targhee (?, 20), Jackson (16, 7), Brundage (10, 0), Lookout (18, 12). Both of next week's storms will bring snow to this region.

Utah: Snowfall and base depths: Alta (38, 20), Snowbird (34, 20), Solitude (31, 16), Snowbasin (10, 6), Brian Head (17, ?). Utah expects up to a foot from this week's first storm, but will be on the southern edge of the second storm.

Northern and Central Colorado: Snowmaking openings were A-Basin Oct. 23, Keystone Oct. 28 and Winter Park Oct. 31. Snowfall and base depths: A-Basin (11,18), Breckenridge (22, 18), Keystone (14, 18), Winter Park (12, 18). Average snowfall expected next week is about 8 inches.

Southern and Western Colorado: Snowfall and base depths, no one open yet: Gothic Snow Lab (18.5, 6.5), Monarch (13, ?), Wolf Creek (14, ?). Next week's storm is expected to dump 1-2 feet, so it is very likely Wolf Creek will open next weekend.

Northeast: No one has reported snow or opened yet in New England or eastern Canada, as late October weather has been very warm.
