2020-21 Ski Season Progress Report as of October 31, 2020

October 2020 snowfall was mostly in Canada. Last weekend a storm dipped down the Continental Divide into Colorado and New Mexico. Openings at some areas may be delayed until enough lifts/terrain can be opened for COVID-19 social distancing, particularly since early November looks to be dry.

California: There has been no new snow. Mammoth's scheduled Nov. 14 opening is likely to be delayed.

Pacific Northwest: Crystal, Mt. Hood and Mt. Bachelor report no October snow. Bachelor will not open until Dec. 7. Whistler cams show snow on the ground at upper lodges but it's hard to tell how much.

Canadian Rockies and Interior B.C.: Snowfall has been significant only in this region. Snowfall and base depths in inches: Kicking Horse (51, 17), Sunshine (42, 24), Lake Louise (34, 19). Lake Louise is 6% open and Mt. Norquay is also open. Big White has an 11 inch base and Revelstoke usually has a bit more than Kicking Horse.

U. S. Northern Rockies: Montana has had snow but mostly east of the Continental Divide, 45 inches at Red Lodge. Great Divide has opened a couple of runs with snowmaking assistance. Other snowfall and base depths: Grand Targhee (24, 9), Jackson (16, 7).

Utah: Alta had only 4 inches in October, a very dry start.

Northern and Central Colorado: This is possibly the first October in over 25 years with no ski area open despite last weekend's storm: 10 inches at Beaver Creek and Keystone, 11 at Breckenridge and Vail. The dry summer may have limited water for snowmaking at A-Basin and Loveland.

Southern and Western Colorado: Last weekend's storm dropped 13 inches at the Gothic Snow Lab and 22 inches at Monarch and Taos. Wolf Creek got 39 inches and is 45% open on a 30-33 inch base.

Northeast: No one has opened yet in New England. Mont Saint-Sauveur opened Oct. 30. Snowfall totals: Killington 5 inches, Sugarbush 4, Le Massif 5.
