Arrived at West 7:30AM with kids needing rentals, lessons. We got through ticket and rental lines by 8:30, at which time it was a real zoo at the base. The West was in good shape everywhere except a rocky area on Jesse James under the main lift. I left for East at 10AM to escape a growing crowd. This was the second day East was open, so the top restaurant was closed and Sundance was incompletely groomed and opened at noon. Most skiers were on Gold Rush, so the steeper bottom third of it got very hard packed in late afternoon. Olympic Bowl was skiable with a good packed powder surface, but more and more weeds became visible as the day wore on.
